(Washington, D.C.) – Rep. Sue Myrick (NC-9) today voted for H.R. 4275, which permanently extends the 10% Income Tax Bracket. This bill saves 73 million working people from an average tax increase of $2,400 over the next decade, and prevents 22 million low-income workers from being pushed into a higher tax bracket.
“There is no such thing as federal money. The money belongs to working Americans. They work hard to earn their pay, and they deserve to keep it,” said Myrick.
The 10% Income Tax Bracket Extension bill permanently places the first $14,000 of every couple’s taxable income ($7,000 for singles) at a 10% tax level. Without H.R. 4275, the 10% tax bracket would have increased back to its original 15% tax level in 2011.
The bill passed the House by a vote of 344 to 76.
