| (Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representative Sue Myrick (NC-9) announced that $8 million for Defense Technologies, Inc. (DTI) was included in the 2005 Department of Defense (DoD) Appropriations Act. The funding, which was requested by Rep. Myrick, will continue to help establish DTI in the defense sector. The funding will also continue to help develop Myrick’s vision of a defense cluster for the Gaston area.
"I was very pleased we could help attain defense funds for DTI. They are creating good jobs for Gaston County, and we want to help them continue that trend," said Myrick.
The 2005 DoD Appropriations Act contained $3M for DTI’s continuing Equipment Life Extension project, and $5M for DTI’s new project called the Intelligent Autonomy Technology Transition Program. The DoD bill passed the House of Representatives on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 by a vote of 403-17. The senate must now pass this bill before the President can sign it into law.
It has been estimated that this funding will create 200 new jobs. Last year, Rep. Myrick help DTI receive $2.5 million last year to start up their defense company.
