MYRICK ANNOUNCES 2005 CONGRESSIONAL
ART COMPETITION

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representative Sue Myrick (NC-9) announced that the 2005 Congressional Art Competition is underway.  Each year, Congress has a national Art competition where students in each Congressional district compete to have their artwork displayed in the US Capitol.  The 1st place winner from each Congressional district has their art displayed in the Capitol for one year.

The competition is open to all high school students in the 9th Congressional District, which includes parts of Gaston, Union, and Mecklenburg Counties.  Art teachers at each of the 9th District high schools have packets with information on the competition, and the guidelines the students must follow.  All interested students should go to their art teachers  to receive the information.  The artwork must be submitted by April 21st.

Rep. Myrick will be having a reception showcasing all the artwork on May 1, 2004 at Matthews Community Center where she will present the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.  The 1st place winner will be invited to a reception in Washington, DC in July to see their artwork displayed in the Capitol with the other winners from across the U.S.

For more information please call Alicia Craddock of the Matthews Community Center at 704-321-7275.
