(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representative Sue Myrick (NC-9) announced that the 2004 Congressional Art Competition is underway. Each year, Congress has a national Art competition where students in each Congressional district compete to have their artwork displayed in the US Capitol. Artwork from each Congressional district is displayed in the Capitol for one year.
The competition is open to all high school students in the 9th Congressional District, which includes Gaston, Union, and Mecklenburg Counties. Art teachers at each of the 9th District high schools have packets with information on the competition, and the guidelines the students must follow. All interested students should go to their art teachers to receive the information.
Rep. Myrick will be having a reception showcasing all the artwork on May 16, 2004 at Wingate University where she will present the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. The 1st place winner will be invited to a reception in Washington, DC in July to see their artwork displayed with the other winners across the U.S.
