(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick (NC-9) today announced that Belmont Abbey College has been awarded a $80,000 grant from the Department of Education. Belmont Abbey was selected to receive funding under the Business and International Education Program.
The Business and International Education (BIE) Program provides grants to institutions of higher education to enhance international business education programs and to expand the capacity of the business community to engage in international economic activities. In order for the college to receive the funding, the International Business Studies Department at Belmont Abbey established the objectives of implementing a Master of Science Degree in International Trade and Law, faculty and student exchanges in Europe and the Western Hemisphere, and certification programs so students can receive professional licensing in international business.
The college will be working with the North Carolina Center for Applied Textile Technology (NCCATT) to help design and implement certification programs in international business skills. In addition, Belmont Abbey has signed letters of agreement with a group of ten corporations already doing international business to help oversee and support their objectives. Funding for this program will be distributed for two years starting July 1, 2004.
For further information please contact Dr. James Giermanski at Belmont Abbey. His number is 704-825-6218.
