Myrick Announces $531,651 Grant to Johnson C. Smith University

(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Representative Sue Myrick today announced that a $531,651 grant has been awarded to Johnson C. Smith University by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The money will be used in conjunction with the Northwest Corridor Community Development Corporation (NWCCDC) to provide community development services to the 12 neighborhoods of the Northwest Corridor section of Charlotte, NC.

The grant allows NWCCDC projects to move forward and will support a portion of their core operating expenses, which includes three student interns, for two years. In addition, it will provide an affordable housing new construction, rehabilitation, and marketing for homeownership for households at 50-80 percent of AMI. The project will also create a loan program component for working capital, equipment and machinery, vehicles, renovations and repairs, and property acquisition to stimulate economic growth and job opportunities among businesses located in the Northwest Corridor, and it will include a homeownership training and counseling component.
