HOLT ANNOUNCES ECONOMIC RECOVERY GRANT FUNDING FOR LOCAL NJ LAW ENFORCEMENT
|

(Washington, D.C.) – Rep. Rush Holt (NJ-12) today announced that Central New Jersey law enforcement will receive justice assistance grants through the economic recovery bill that Congress passed and President Obama signed last month. The funding comes from the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant Program, which supports law enforcement, prosecution and courts, prevention and education, corrections, drug treatment and enforcement, technology improvement programs, and victim and witness assistance. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act provides New Jersey with $29.7 million for law enforcement programs and activities and nearly $18 million in direct funding for local law enforcement agencies.
“Law enforcement and crime prevention are not immune to economic downturns and budget woes,” Holt said. “This funding is included in the economic recovery bill because we can’t force local law enforcement to make no-win decisions about whom to lay off, what initiatives to scale back on, or what technology improvements to hold off purchasing.”
Holt announced that law enforcement from the following localities will receive funding, contingent on completing an application to the Department of Justice:
Mercer County
Ewing - $70,369 Lawrence - $34,967 Princeton Borough - $12,162 Trenton - $858,758
Middlesex County
East Brunswick - $28,017 North Brunswick - $58,206 Old Bridge - $34,533 South Brunswick - $18,027 South River - $16,723
