WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Edolphus “Ed” Towns (NY-10) proudly voted in support of H.Res 1428, which recognizes Brooklyn Botanic Garden on its 100th anniversary as the preeminent horticultural attraction in Brooklyn. The resolution, sponsored by fellow colleague Rep. Yvette D. Clarke (NY-11), recently passed the House unanimously. Rep. Towns released the following statement following the resolution’s passage:
“Located in the heart of Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a preeminent example of the finest urban gardening and a model for environmental stewardship. During the last 100 years, Brooklynites, New Yorkers and people from around the world have appreciated the recreational opportunities and educational experiences offered at this premier 52-acre attraction.
“This urban oasis also prides itself on a strong commitment to education, community outreach, and scientific research. Programs like Project Green Reach and the Garden Apprentice Program provide more than 3,000 school youth annually with unique, hands-on opportunities for personal growth and career development in their classrooms, in their neighborhoods, and at the Garden.
“I commend the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens for its numerous achievements over the last 100 years, and I look forward to another century of achievement.”
