Washington, DC - Congressman Edolphus Towns, 10th District New York, announces his support for the redevelopment of Brooklyn Navy Yard Admiral's Row which has plans to include a new affordable first class supermarket. The much-needed business is expected to generate at least 500 retail jobs and would be an important boon for the community.
"I would like to express my appreciation to the Brooklyn Navy Yard Corporation for their time, effort and funding over the past decade in preserving and documenting the historical significance of the Brooklyn Navy Yard," said Congressman Towns.
The Navy Yard Corporation's plans to develop Admiral's Row represent a unique opportunity to bring a significant number of retail and industrial and employment possibilities as well as essential residential and neighborhood services to a community that suffers a real socioeconomic imbalance and a high unemployment rate.
"I am in favor of preserving the rich heritage of historical buildings in Brooklyn. I join the other area elected officials in urging the federal government in moving quickly to complete the transfer of Admiral's Row to allow the Brooklyn Navy Yard to build not only a supermarket but also a large industrial building on the site," added Congressman Towns.
