Child and Family Health Awareness at East New York Day

LCG Community Services is proud to announce Child and Family Health Awareness at East New York Day with Congressman Edolphus “Ed” Towns. The fair will take place this Sunday, July 20th from 2-6 P.M. at 223 New Jersey Avenue in Brooklyn, New York.

"Lack of proactive and preventative care, resources, access and insurance are the greatest challenges that my constituents face in terms of health care.  That is why I have introduced numerous pieces of legislation to alleviate health disparities and provide critical funding for essential health care research." Congressman Towns said.

Between 1995 and 2004, long-term hospitalizations increased over 25% in the New York Metro area. According to a recent government study, the rates of cancer, illness, and illness-related fatalities in East New York, Bedford Stuyvesant, and Flatbush neighborhoods are on the rise.

“If we had proper screening and early interventions, many of these fatalities would have been prevented,” Rebecca Berkowitz, Executive Director of LCG Community Services said. The health fair is a natural outgrowth of the work of LCG Community Services, which has been providing health and health-related services to low-income and minority communities since 2005.

Child and Family Health Awareness at East New York Day will be a combination of health screenings, health information, and live entertainment. Over 3000 people are expected to attend and on-site health screenings will include diabetes, asthma, hypertension, and glaucoma. Information and guides to healthy living, food stamps, and resources for senior citizens will also be distributed.

Popular R & B group, Day 26 (MTV’s Making the Band, Billboard # 1 album) will be performing during the event alongside the rapper Maino (#1 single “Hi Hater”). Members of the Brooklyn Nets will be on-hand to distribute Nets apparel and sign autographs. The fair will also have free giveaways and a free barbeque for all participants. The event will also commemorate the forty-fifth anniversary of the Grace Baptist Church, a staunch pillar of the Brooklyn community.

In the event of rain Child and Family Health Awareness at East New York Day will move to Maxwell High School at 145 Pennsylvania Avenue in Brooklyn.

Child and Family Health Awareness at East New York Day was made possible by the sponsorship of Jadd Enterprises, Americhoice by United Healthcare, Interborough Development and Consultation Centers, Brooklyn Health Partners, Forest City Ratner Companies, and The Lazar Consulting Group.
