WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Edolphus “Ed” Towns (NY-10) voted to pass the H.R. 847, the “The James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act” which offers resources for those first responders suffering from World Trade Center-related health issues. Rep. Towns, along with his colleagues from the New York congressional delegation and many other members of congress from across the country, have been fighting for the passage of this important legislation.
“September 11, 2001 left an indelible mark on our individual and collective histories,” said Representative Towns. “But the incredible and sacrificial responses made by firefighters, rescue workers, responders, police officers and EMTs, construction workers and many others nationwide renewed our spirits and it is with great admiration I voted today to continue to honor their heroism.”
The 9/11 James Zadroga Health Compensation Act provides more than $7 billion, over the next ten years, to establish the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund as well as the World Trade Center Health Program that will provide health monitoring and treatment to those with World Trade Center-related health issues, and strengthens the World Trade Center Survivor Program which offers health screenings, monitoring and treatment to eligible survivors of the attack. The legislation is authored by New York Reps. Carolyn Maloney and Jerrold Nadler.
“H.R. 847 takes care of those to whom we owe a huge debt and it is my honor to support this bill,” added Rep. Towns.
