Brooklyn, NY – U.S. Rep. Edolphus “Ed” Towns (D-NY) will join representatives from the National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS at a town hall meeting to discuss the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the black community. At the town hall meeting, families living with and affected by HIV/AIDS, residents, social service agencies, medical providers, and local leaders will discuss the HIV health emergency in the 10th Congressional District and surrounding communities.
According to the Center’s for Disease Control and Prevention, the HIV/AIDS epidemic is a health crisis for African Americans at every stage of the disease – from infection to death. At the epicenter of the crisis in a city with an HIV infection rate three times the national average, Brooklyn residents are concerned about the access to HIV/AIDS treatment and services.
