Towns’ Statement on the Celebration of Rosh Hashanah

WASHINGTON -U.S. Representative Edolphus “Ed” Towns (NY-10) released the following statement on the celebration of the Jewish New Year:

“Today, as the Jewish community across the world begins the celebration of Rosh Hashanah, I warmly extend my heartfelt wishes for a good and sweet New Year, or Shana Tova.  Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year and the High Holiday season. It is designated as a time of self-reflection and as a time to celebrate God’s gifts of life, love and unity.

Today, our Jewish brethren in Brooklyn and around the world will join hands with family, friends and neighbors to reflect on years past, and look forward to the future with an optimistic eye. The High Holiday season provides many with an opportunity to reaffirm their relationship with God, and their commitment to Jewish values such as community service and devotion to family. May today be a day of remembrance and forgiveness as we welcome in the New Year. For the Jewish community, and all the world, may the year 5771 be blessed with peace, health and happiness.”
