Towns’ Statement on Public/Private Partnership that Will Bring Affordable Housing to Brooklyn
Goldman Sachs and the City of New York Partner to develop $45 Million affordable housing and retail space initiative in Bedford-Stuyvesant

BROOKLYN - U.S. Rep. Edolphus “Ed” Towns (NY-10) issued the following statement today, applauding Goldman Sachs’ partnership with Mayor Bloomberg, New York City agencies, developers and Carver Bank that will create a 105 unit apartment and retail complex in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn:

“Words cannot describe how pleased I am that New York City’s first affordable housing project, financed with new market credits, will be housed in Brooklyn's 10th Congressional District.

“Bedford-Stuyvesant has long been in need of a project like “The Bradford,” which will provide opportunities for many hard-working families to live in quality housing.

“This $45 Million investment will create 105 apartments, but what makes this project even more attractive is the retail space included in the plan, which will bring more business and jobs to our community.

“I commend the collaborative public/private partnership between Goldman Sachs, Mayor Bloomberg, the N.Y.C. Housing Development Corporation, the N.Y.C. Department of Housing Preservation and Development, BRP Development, Carver Bank, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation and Waveland Community Development for their commitment to making quality, affordable housing a reality for Brooklyn residents.”
