Representative Towns Calls for the Resignation of Don Imus

Brooklyn, NY - Congressman Edolphus Towns is calling for the resignation of on-air personality Don Imus who during a CBS Radio and MSNBC Television broadcast insulted the women players of the Rutgers University Basketball Team:

"What Don Imus said was demeaning not only to African-American women but to all women.  To refer to our young, beautiful women in this manner is appalling.  These young athletes made it all the way to the NCAA Basketball Championship Finals.  We should be applauding this momentous achievement not making derogatory, stereotypical remarks in his reference to them," said Congressman Towns.

"The apology issued by Don Imus is far too little too late and the two week suspension handed down by both networks is only a slap on the wrist.  Imus should be fired for his shameful remarks.  I would have expected better from a broadcaster of 45 years," added Congressman Towns.
