WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Edolphus “Ed” Towns (NY-10) issued the following statement today in observance of Hanukkah:

“This evening, Jewish people across the world will celebrate the beginning of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights.  Hanukkah commemorates the Macabees' victory over the Greeks and the restoration of the Holy Temple through the lighting of the Menorah each night.  

“Just as the Menorah's light grows each night with the addition of another candle, Hanukkah reminds us that the only way we can dispel darkness in this world is by adding more light.  It is my hope that we continue to work together to bring more light to our communities, to Brooklyn and to America.  

“Wishing everyone a joyous and freilichen Hanukkah.”
