BROOKLYN - “Today, Holocaust Remembrance Day, presents an opportunity for all of us to reflect on the horrific events of the Holocaust, during which time the Nazis attempted to eliminate an entire people through the murder of six million Jewish men, women and children across Europe. For the growing number of world leaders stupid, or evil, enough to deny the truth of what happened, we must emphatically and repeatedly proclaim that we will never forget and must take pains to continuously denounce false claims and anti-Semitic slurs. “Following the Second World War, many survivors of the Holocaust made their way to my district to rebuild their lives and communities here in Brooklyn. Their indomitable spirit and determination allowed Jewish life to blossom here, and today we must recognize their tremendous sacrifices and contributions.
“‘Never forget’ also means we cannot forget our commitment to the Holocaust survivor community in Brooklyn. Last year, I secured crucial funding to provide community services to Holocaust survivors through the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty and the Jewish Community Relations Council of Canarsie. I proudly support the Jewish community in my district and I will never forget the six million Jews who tragically lost their lives in the Holocaust more than six decades ago.”
