WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Edolphus “Ed” Towns (NY-10) today co-sponsored and voted in support of H.Res. 1320, a resolution that recognizes the vigilance of two New York City residents, first responders as well as local and federal law enforcement agencies for their investigative work, following the attempted terror attack on Times Square this past Saturday. The measure was easily passed by the U.S. House of Representatives.
The New York Police Department, the New York Police Department Bomb Squad, the Fire Department of New York, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Customs and Border Protection, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice, the New York Joint Terrorism Task Force, the Bridgeport Police Department, Detective Bureau, Patrol Division, and other law enforcement agencies in Connecticut worked collaboratively to identify and apprehend the individual who attempted to detonate a car bomb in New York City’s Times Square on May 1, 2010.
“I applaud the collaborative efforts of all the first responders and federal agencies who, through diligence, determination and exceptional professionalism, worked tirelessly throughout this entire investigation,” said Rep. Towns. “I also extend my deepest gratitude to Mr. Lance Orton and Mr. Duane Jackson for expeditiously notifying the authorities and, ultimately, helping to bring to justice a person who sought to harm innocent women, men and children.”
The United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York yesterday charged Faisal Shazad with attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction, acts of terrorism transcending national boundaries, and other federal crimes for allegedly driving a car bomb into Times Square on May 1, 2010.
