WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Edolphus “Ed” Towns (NY-10) released the following statement in observance of Independence Day 2010:
“We celebrate today America’s independence, the defining moment in our nation’s history when the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the United States of America. Communities across the country are coming together to celebrate this nation’s founding principles of liberty, freedom and opportunity, which our Founding Fathers sacrificed and fought tirelessly for when building a new nation.
I join my constituents in Brooklyn and all Americans today in expressing my deepest appreciation to our troops who are selflessly serving to protect our nation’s founding principles and our precious freedoms. Let us keep these brave men and women in our thoughts and prayers on this day and all year round. I wish all Brooklynites a very safe and happy Independence Day.”
