In Observance of Labor Day
WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Edolphus “Ed” Towns (NY-10) released the following statement in observance of Labor Day 2009:
Today, we honor the countless economic and social accomplishments of the American worker. We reflect on the promising productivity of those before us, and we look forward to the future contributions of workers from established and developing sectors.
Established in 1882, in the name of celebrating the American Labor Movement, Labor Day is a meaningful holiday in Brooklyn’s history. The Central Labor Union of New York was a Brooklyn-based organization that pushed for the holiday’s creation and held the initial Labor Day parade in the streets of Manhattan.
To every laborer across the nation, I extend my warmest thanks for your efforts and wish you a restful and festive Labor Day.
