Congressman Ed Towns (D-Brooklyn) released the following statement regarding the resignation of Richard Grasso, the former chairman and chief executive of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
Washington, DC -
"Dick Grasso had a career of distinguished service at the NYSE and he will be sorely missed. His strong and steady hand guided the NYSE through difficult times, helping to keep the exchange economically vibrant and important, when other exchanges fell by the wayside.
As someone who rose from humble beginnings, he always kept the entire New York community in mind when charting a course for the exchange's future.
His strong leadership and management skills were never more evident following the tragic events of 9/11 when he was able to reopen the markets soon after the attacks. For that, New York City and the entire nation will be forever grateful."
