Brooklyn Student Selected for Congressional Page Program

Washington, DC - U.S. Rep. Edolphus “Ed” Towns (D-Brooklyn) is pleased to announce the selection of Krystle-Joy Vives as a Congressional Page for the June 9 – June 27, 2003 term.

"The Congressional Page Program is one of the most highly sought after internships in our nation’s capital,” said Congressman Towns.  “Her selection is a tribute to all of her hard work and her long list of accomplishments.  She truly is an extraordinary young adult.  Her parents, teachers, and entire community should be proud of her.

Krystle is currently a junior at the Brooklyn High School of the Arts where she is the Student Council President.  She is also an active member of the Berean Missionary Baptist Church, serving with the Celestial Voices, the Drama Ministry, and the Ministry of the Sacred Dance.  To further pursue her goal of acting, Krystle is also training with the City Kids Foundation Reparatory Ensemble.   Additionally, she started her own business, called Krystle’s Kids, which provides hair care services for infants and teenagers.

As a Congressional Page, she will get a first hand look at how the government operates and how federal policy is made in the nation's capital.  While working on the House floor, the pages gain hands-on experience with the legislative process.

“This is an incredible opportunity for any young adult,” said Towns.  “Looking at her track record, I am confident that she will take full advantage of all of the opportunities available to her during her time in Washington, DC.  She will serve this program well.”

In addition to the congressional responsibilities, pages are required to attend several Washington-In-Siders Program (WISP) events, which are part of the program’s curriculum.
