Washington, DC - Congressman Ed Towns (D-Brooklyn), along with House Democrats, took to the steps of the Capitol today to announce a new plan to address the challenges of middle class families. Called a New Partnership for America’s Future, the agenda makes a commitment to ensuring families the opportunity for good jobs, affordable health care and safe communities.
“Middle class working families are the heart of our democracy," said Rep. Towns. "We must provide them and others struggling to enter the middle class, with the means to provide for their families' well being. This blueprint for the future of America would guarantee a strong and vibrant middle class and the opportunity for all families to improve their economic lot in life.
The Democratic agenda unveiled today is based on six core values: prosperity, national security, fairness, community, opportunity and accountability. Democratic leaders say the plan will help build a future worthy of the vision of our Founding Fathers, worthy of the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform, and worthy of the aspirations of our children.
"All Americans share these same basic values put forward by our New Partnership – economic prosperity for all, national security, safe communities, educational opportunity, a fair health policy, and accountability in our fiscal management," said Rep. Towns. "But sharing values is not enough. We have to put partisanship aside and act."
"It is easy to talk the talk but when Republicans support large tax cuts for the wealthiest one percent they are undermining homeland security, opportunity and fairness by diverting critical resources," continued Towns. "Those polices also weaken the accountability of our government by running up huge deficits."
Towns says that this new “partnership” reflects what the American people have indicated as their priorities and aspirations for their families, communities and country.
