Towns Urges Senate to Take Prompt Action on Judge Sotomayor’s Supreme Court Nomination

WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Edolphus “Ed” Towns (D-NY, NY-10), Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, today urged the Senate to expeditiously confirm Judge Sonya Sotomayor as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court.  Judge Sotomayor was reported favorably by the Senate Judiciary Committee today, and upon her confirmation she will replace Justice David Souter.

“Judge Sotomayor’s confirmation hearings proved that she possesses the temperament, experience, and intellect required to be a Supreme Court Justice.  The nomination of our fellow New Yorker is one in which our nation should take pride – for it has broken down ethnic and gender barriers that will forever open the doors to future generations of Americans.  I proudly support Judge Sotomayor to be the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court and urge the Senate to take swift action on her nomination.”
