Rep. Towns Statement on the Passing of Reverend Timothy Wright

WASHINGTON – “I am deeply saddened by the death of my dear friend, Reverend Timothy Wright, a true inspiration and blessing, not only to those who knew him well but to the many who were graced by his preaching, music, and charity the world over. Words alone cannot express just how much he meant to me and to the many people whose lives he touched through his music, love, and life example.

He accomplished so much in his life – a Grammy-nominated gospel singer and composer, a renowned pastor, and a beloved family man – yet he maintained his humble and generous spirit and commitment to the Brooklyn community.  When faced last year with a painfully unimaginable tragedy, the sudden death of his wife and grandson, Reverend Wright endured this great hardship with steadfastness to his faith and belief in the will and sovereignty of his God.  His enthusiasm for life and his perseverance through improbable odds and adversity never waned and are, in my opinion, the measure and essence of his character.

My sympathy and prayers, and that of my wife and family, are with Reverend Wright’s family during this difficult time. I hope that they might take some comfort in knowing that the indelible imprint that he made in the lives of millions will be long remembered and cherished for generations to come.”
