WU CONTINUES TO PRESSURE FERC TO LISTEN TO OREGONIANS ON LNG

WASHINGTON, D.C. Today Congressman David Wu again wrote to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), encouraging it to listen and respond to Oregonians’ concerns about LNG facilities and pipelines.  Joseph Kelliher, FERC chairman, recently replied to an earlier letter from Congressman Wu that called for additional hearings in Clatsop County.  Kelliher stated that FERC believes “the Commission has provided the public with substantial opportunity to participate in the Commission’s process and that additional meetings at this time would be unlikely to identify new concerns.”

Congressman Wu’s letter is below.

June 5, 2008

Joseph T. Kelliher, Chairman
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
888 First Street NE

Washington, DC  20426

Dear Chairman Kelliher:

Thank you for your letter of May 9, 2008, which I received today.  While I appreciate what the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has done to hold meetings in the areas of Oregon affected by the liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility proposed for Bradwood Landing, the perception persists that FERC has been high-handed and has not truly heard what citizens of Oregon have to say.

I sincerely hope that, during this process, FERC not only goes through the motions of holding hearings, but sincerely listens to, hears, and responds to the concerns of Oregonians about LNG facilities and gas pipelines.

Again, thank you for your letter and thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter of great concern to Oregon.

Very truly yours,

David Wu
Member of Congress
