Congressman Chaka Fattah releases the following statement on the confirmation of Judge John Roberts to Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court
WASHINGTON, DC -- “When members of the Senate cast their votes to confirm John Roberts as the 17th Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court they should be mindful that the rights and privileges they and the rest of America currently enjoys will be placed in jeopardy. Judge Roberts's record implies that his commitment to civil rights, women’s rights, affirmative action and education is deficient when considering the impact of the law on the average citizen.
“The American people should be attentive to those in the Senate who vote in favor of confirmation for Judge Roberts as he will have the power to shift the nation’s highest Court away from upholding the rights, liberties and legal protections that Americans treasure.
“The President and his administration along with members of the Senate who vote in support of the Roberts nomination must be held accountable if the constitutional rights enjoyed today are diluted by the rulings of tomorrow.” |
