| WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA) continues his commitment to educational opportunity for all Philadelphia public school students. Earlier this week Fattah, Philadelphia Mayor John Street and Philadelphia Public School CEO Paul Vallas, announced the establishment of the last dollar scholarship. The scholarships will close the financial gap for every eligible Philadelphia public or charter school graduating senior who wants to attend college.
“To be ready for college you must be prepared for college,” said Fattah. “That is why I am pleased to announce The Department of Education is awarding the School District of Philadelphia over $2,000,000.00 for advanced placement courses and small learning environments.” The advanced placement course program will receive a grant of $582,454.00. An allocation of $1,750,000.00 will be earmarked for the small learning centers.
“Over the years I’ve worked with my colleagues to enact legislation to benefit America’s most promising population, our children. The announcement of these grants to the Philadelphia School District is the result of the combined efforts of those committed to education for all children,” said Congressman Fattah.
In addition, the Department of Education is providing the following organizations with grants:
· $434,593.00 to United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania for its “Community Technology Centers Program”
· $310,842.00 to People for People, Inc. for its “Community Technology Centers Program”
