Washington, DC – Washington, D.C. –Congressman Bill Shuster is pleased to announce an important change to his committee assignments in the House of Representatives. This afternoon, the House Republican Conference voted unanimously to return Shuster to the House Armed Services Committee.
“Today’s announcement is a significant win for the 9th district and Pennsylvania,” Shuster said. “My return to the Armed Services Committee will enable people of the 9th to have a voice in the oversight of our armed forces and impact the lives of our friends and neighbors serving in uniform at home and abroad.”
Congressman Shuster will return to the Armed Services Committee and resume his work at the same level of seniority he had when he went on leave from the committee last year. Shuster will resume his responsibilities with the committee immediately.
“Congress’ first responsibility is to provide for the defense of our nation against its enemies. America faces a great challenge in confronting the threat of militant Islamic fundamentalism,” Shuster added. “A key component in our fight against this dangerous enemy continues to be our military. I support their mission and I am committed to improving their welfare, their readiness and the way they are applied to secure our safety and our interests abroad.”
“Rep. Shuster has shown unwavering support for our men and women in uniform during his time in Congress. His previous work on the committee helped improve our military and defense posture,” said Congressman Duncan Hunter, the Ranking Republican on the Armed Services committee. “I am happy to see him rejoin the committee and look forward to working with him on the challenges that face our military and our nation.”
“Throughout Rep. Shuster’s time in Congress, he has shown a keen interest in national security and the state of our military,” said Rep. John Boehner, Republican Leader of the House. “I am happy to see that his voice is once again part of the Armed Services Committee.” |
