Shuster Endorses Altoona Ordinance and Urges City Council to Pass Illegal Immigration Measure

Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster announced today his endorsement of the City of Altoona Undocumented Alien Control Ordinance. Shuster also encourages members of the City Council to pass the measure when it is considered on Wednesday. The Altoona ordinance would establish penalties for the employment of unlawful workers and the harboring of undocumented aliens in the City of Altoona.

At Shuster’s request, the Congressional Research Service reviewed and analyzed the ordinance and found it was well-crafted and more likely to be able to stand-up to challenges than other illegal immigration ordinances drafted in the past.

“Immigration laws are put in place to protect America and this ordinance will make members of the community accountable if they hire or house illegal immigrants,” said Shuster. “Illegal immigrants are a strain on taxpayers and on social services; they overextend Medicaid and Social Security but don’t contribute. There are already an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in this country. How many more people need to show up in the US illegally before we decide to do something about it on a local level? Enough is enough. I say we hold people responsible now.”
