| Washington, DC Congressman Bill Shuster congratulates the students, teachers and administrators of A.L. Wilson Elementary School today for receiving the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Blue Ribbon Award from the Department of Education. A.L. Wilson Elementary School is in Fairchance in Fayette County. The school qualified for the award because they were in the top ten percent of schools in the state.
I am very proud that a school in the Ninth Congressional District is not only reaching, but surpassing the goals put forth in No Child Left Behind, said Shuster. It is a tremendous accomplishment and I congratulate the principal, teachers, administrators and students of A. L. Wilson Elementary School and urge them to keep up the good work.
Schools may qualify for the NCLB Blue Ribbon Award for one of two reasons:
Schools with at least 40 percent of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds that dramatically improve student performance to high levels on state tests.
Schools whose students, regardless of background, achieve in the top 10 percent of their state on state tests or in the case of private schools in the top 10 percent of the nation.
Carl Bezjak is the principal of A.L. Wilson Elementary School. He has held that post for four years. |
