AMTRAN FUNDING SECURED BY SHUSTER

New Buses, Other Improvements On The Way To AMTRAN

Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster announced today a grant for AMTRAN, a public transit service for Blair County.  The funding will be used for the replacement of older buses and other upgrades to meet the needs of riders.

“AMTRAN provides a great service to Blair County because it provides transportation for those who need it to go to work, food shopping or around town,” said Congressman Shuster, a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.  “I am certain this funding will help AMTRAN improve its service by helping to replace older buses.”

The Omnibus spending bill passed by Congress included a $300,000 grant for AMTRAN, located in the Transportation section of the legislation.

AMTRAN was created in 1958 as a joint municipal authority between Altoona and Logan Township.  The history of public transportation in Altoona dates back more than 100 years to 1888, when the City Passenger Railway ran a horse-drawn railcar along a one-mile track downtown.  The funding announced today by Congressman Shuster will help AMTRAN serve the community, as it has for so many years.
