SHUSTER KICKS-OFF HIGH SCHOOL ART CONTEST

Winner’s Art To Be Displayed In Halls Of Congress

Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster will be holding his annual Congressional Art Competition, where the winner’s art will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.  Each year, Shuster’s office hosts this contest in conjunction with schools throughout the Ninth Congressional District.  This year the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art will be part of the affiliation, and will host an exhibition where all of the artwork entered will be displayed.

“I look forward to this contest every year because I enjoy working with the local communities and I enjoy viewing the wonderful work these talented young men and women create,” said Congressman Shuster.  “If I could change one thing, though, I would bring them all to Washington for everyone to see.  It is always very hard for me to pick just one.”

Congressman Shuster’s office notified schools across the Ninth District in October to coordinate their competitions.  Each school was invited to submit one piece of artwork to the contest and was provided guidelines for acceptance, display and exhibit of the artwork.  Judges for the competition and a date and time for the reception at SAMA (where the winner will be revealed) will be announced when they have been selected.

In the halls of the Capitol Building, the winner’s artwork will be displayed for all who pass by, which includes Members of Congress, Senators, diplomats and other officials.  The corridor is aligned with paintings and pictures from around the country, which have been entered into a similar competition in their region.  The winner selected by Congressman Shuster will represent the Ninth District in Washington.

SAMA has asked all interested art teachers to contact Ms. Bobby Moore at 814-472-3920 if they plan to participate.  All media inquiries should be directed to Tory Mazzola in Congressman Shuster’s office at 202-225-2431.
