SHUSTER ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR BEDFORD ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Local, State and Federal Officials Secure Grants to Help Area and Bedford Springs

Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster announced today funding for the Bedford area and the Bedford Springs Hotel.  In addition to state and local money, the funding secured by Shuster will help with the renovation of this historic area and hotel as well as promote economic development.

“This hotel is a national landmark and because of its location in central Pennsylvania, and the scenery that comes with that, it has hosted many famous people, including U.S. Presidents and Supreme Court Justices,” said Shuster, who grew up in Bedford County.  “It is important to do what we can to preserve these places of historic significance because of the stories they tell to everyone who visits and passes by.”

The federal funding secured by Shuster for this project includes $7.7 million to relocate Route 220 and $1.15 million for local infrastructure improvements, such as sewer work.  Today’s event included local and state officials from around central and western Pennsylvania and this combined effort will greatly add to the region’s economic development.

“The goal is to continue attracting people and businesses to Bedford County, and it is a joint effort,” said Shuster.  “This area has a lot to offer new companies looking to grow or relocate and for families in search of a nice place to live.”
