Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster voted today in support of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) report relating to Letterkenny Army Depot. The report adds nearly 200 jobs, names Letterkenny the Center for Missile Excellence and calls for nearly 50 percent of the Army’s multi-wheeled vehicles to be tested and rebuilt there.
“Today, the Base Realignment and Closure recommendations took one step closer to being finalized. We have succeeded because we worked together, but we cannot stop here. There is likely to be another BRAC cycle in five, ten or fifteen years. We don’t know for certain, but I fully expect one, and we need to stay focused on making sure Letterkenny is the best at their mission. Franklin County is a great place to do business because of the hardworking local workforce, and I believe it is the best place for these missions. The military’s decision this time around reinforces that,” said Shuster.
Since 2002 Letterkenny has already added 1,000 jobs, which have had a direct positive impact on the community. Congressman Shuster, along with local officials, promoted Letterkenny to the Pentagon throughout the process. Shuster met with Secretary of the Army Fran Harvey in Washington and secured a visit from General Benjamin Griffin, who oversees the nation’s depots. |
