| Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster is pleased to announce that the Brush Valley Township Volunteer Fire Company has received a Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Program grant in the amount of $39,900.00. The funds from the grant will be used by the fire department to purchase a new generator.
The backup generator will be used to power the fire station during electric outages of any type. The generator will be capable of running HVAC and electrical outlets to provide power to any appliances in the building. This is important due to the fire station functioning as a community meeting area in times of emergency.
“The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program remains the only source of federal support for our first responders,” Shuster said. “Without this important program, our firefighters would be unable to afford the equipment they need to serve our communities. I am proud to see our tax dollars help the people who help us each and every day.”
“The funding that we were awarded for the backup generator will give us a place for our and neighboring communities to go during a disaster or large scale emergency,” stated Fire Chief Edward Altemus. “Without the funds from this grant, we wouldn’t have been able to afford it.”
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP) awards one-year grants directly to fire departments to support the nation's firefighters and the services they deliver. The Department of Homeland Security’s Office of State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness (SLGCP) administers the program, in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration. |
