CAMBRIA AMBULANCE RECEIVES FUNDS FOR NEW VEHICLE

Shuster Announces Grant for Northern Cambria Ambulance

Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster announced today a federal grant for the Veterans Memorial Ambulance Service in Northern Cambria (Cambria County).  In the past, this funding was exclusively for firefighters but this year it has been opened up to additional emergency responders, including ambulance providers.  Veterans Ambulance will use the funding to buy one or two more vehicles for service in the area.

“These grants have provided fire companies with useful funding for years, and now for the first time other emergency officials can compete for it,” said Shuster, chairman of the Subcommittee on Emergency Management.  “When people are in need we want to make sure our local officials have equipment that can do the job efficiently and effectively.  These new ambulance vehicles will help provide better and more timely services to the residents in the area.”

Veterans Ambulance is receiving $118,750 to go toward either one or two new vehicles.  The funding is administered through the Department of Homeland Security Firefighters Assistance Program, which awards one-year grants directly to emergency officials around the country.

This is the first year the funding has been available to non-firefighters, and Veterans Ambulance serves the community as an emergency responder, which makes them eligible.
