CHAMBERSBURG FIRE UPGRADES TO DIGITAL

Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster announced funding today for the Chambersburg Fire Department in Franklin County to buy new radio equipment.  The Department of Homeland Security administers the grant program, which benefits local firefighters across the country.

“We would like to thank Congressman Shuster and Homeland Security for awarding this grant that will help us upgrade equipment,” said Assistant Fire Chief Robert Murray, who is also the department’s grant writer.

Chambersburg Fire will receive $202,231 to purchase and upgrade the county’s radio system.  They will buy a new UHF digital system that will replace the low-band frequency in use today.  The new system will include mobiles and portables.

“Franklin County has been growing at a rapid pace and it is important that the community’s services keep up,” said Shuster, chairman of the Emergency Management Subcommittee in Congress.  “The Chambersburg Fire Department will now have better communications equipment, which will help our first responders when every second counts.”

The Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance for Firefighters Program oversees the grant to Chambersburg Fire.  The Assistance for Firefighters Program delivers one-year funding to firefighters across the country.
