Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster, Governor Ed Rendell, Senator Rick Santorum, state Senator Robert Jubelirer and state Representative Dick Lee Hess announced a major economic stimulus package today that has been secured because of a coordinated effort between local, state and federal officials. By working together, they were able to retain jobs, attract new business and keep a company not only in Pennsylvania, but in the United States. Robert DeMajistre (Seton Company President), Mark Taylor (Local Plant Manager), Bette Slayton (President of the Bedford County Development Authority) and Steve Stoudnour (Saxton Borough Municipal Authority) were also instrumental in this project and were at today’s event.
"This is why it is so important for local, state and federal officials to work together," said Shuster, who is chairman of the Economic Development Subcommittee in Congress. "This coordinated effort saved jobs, created new ones and will develop infrastructure in the community that will promote development. In today’s world businesses will locate anywhere they can perform best, and we need to make sure central Pennsylvania has the resources and quality infrastructure it needs to compete."
After a combined effort for central Pennsylvania $1.27 million has been secured at the federal level by Shuster and Santorum to go with the $2.3 million secured by the state for the area. This economic development package will create 100 jobs and retain another 265, and keep a quality employer in central Pennsylvania. The funding will go toward expanding local wastewater facilities and other infrastructure development.
The Seton Company had been looking into expanding its facilities and was searching for the best location. There were a variety of options, including New Jersey and in other countries where cost-savings were a consideration, but because local, state and federal officials worked together to secure economic development funding for Bedford, the expansion will take place in Saxton.
The federal funding is administered through the Economic Development Administration, which Shuster oversees as subcommittee chairman. Seton Company had a variety of its products, including automobiles with Seton leather seats, on site for viewing. |
