| Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster announced that five fire departments in the Ninth Congressional District will receive federal grant money for new equipment, vehicles and protective gear. More than $672,000 was awarded through the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.
“Our firefighters put their lives on the line to protect our homes and families,” said Shuster, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Emergency Management. “I am glad that DHS is providing them with the funds to better do their jobs and protect themselves. Our first responders are on the front lines, protecting Americans and protecting our property. They should have the best equipment available to do that.”
The five volunteer fire departments will be utilizing their funds in various ways:
· Waynesboro VFD is receiving $22,800 for a new fire hose
· North Middleton VFD is receiving $39,900 for turnout equipment
· Sherman’s Dale Community Fire Department is receiving $356,250 for a new fire vehicle
· Ickesburg VFD is receiving $59,273 for operations and safety equipment
· Westover VFD is receiving $194,504 for a new fire vehicle
Shuster will be presenting checks to the respective Fire Chiefs throughout the month of October. The DHS Assistance to Firefighters Grant program is responsible for $485 million in grant money for fire stations around the country this year. |
