| Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster announced today federal funding for Smithfield Fire Company #1 in Huntingdon County. The grant will be used to update their equipment with the purchase of a new air compressor storage and fill station.
The fire company will receive $38,000 and the fill station system is used to fill the firefighters’ air tanks. The current system is only 5,000 pounds and is unable to completely fill the tanks. The updated 6,000-pound system will be able to completely fill the tanks and better protect the operators topping off the gear. It will also bring the system up to the National Firefighters Protection Association standards.
“With the funds provided for updated equipment and technology, Smithfield Fire Company #1 will be better equipped to save lives and protect our communities,” said Congressman Shuster. “The firefighters in central and western Pennsylvania dedicate their time and efforts and take considerable risks to keep us safe. I will continue to work closely with local fire departments to help meet their needs when federal funding is available.”
The grant is awarded through the Department of Homeland Security Assistance for Firefighters grant program. The program awards one-year grants directly to fire stations across the country. |
