Shuster to Tour Indiana Farm and Meet with Local Farmers

Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster will be in Indiana County for a farm tour with the Indiana County Farm Bureau on Thursday.  The event starts at 10:30 a.m. and is located off Route 286 West from Indiana.  The tour is expected to include between 30 – 50 local farmers who value this time because it gives them a chance to talk with Congressman Shuster about federal policies that are impacting them and their farms.

WHO: Congressman Shuster, Indiana County Farm Bureau Officials and Local Farmers

WHAT: Farm tour and meeting with local farmers to 1) update Shuster on changes taking place in the agriculture community and 2) give farmers a chance to talk with Shuster about laws, regulations and other issues affecting them in Indiana County

WHEN: Thursday August 4 at 10:30 a.m.

WHERE: Take Route 286 West from Indiana.  Go left on Bethel Church Road and follow this for 2.5 miles.  The farm is on the right.

Today’s farmer feeds about 144 people in the United States and abroad annually, but in 1940 one farmer fed only 19 people.  Across the country farmers are feeling the increased demand and, although technology has helped in many areas, these meetings provide quality and worthwhile feedback for Congressman Shuster to take back to Washington.  Expected issues include the recently passed energy bill, eliminating the death tax, Association Health Plans, which would allow farmers to band together to provide more access to health care for their workers, and trade.
