“We are on the verge of another remarkable day in Iraq’s history – which is being defined by progress, freedom and democracy.  Who would have thought even two years ago the Iraqi government would have come this far in such a short time?  They have been underestimated from the beginning.  This process is how democracy works – Iraqis are governing themselves and building their own future.  Today they have a constitution and no dictator oppressing them.  I hope the national news media covers this historic, symbolic and monumental event because my constituents know there is more news coming out of Iraq than the negative stories they have been covering.”
