INFORMATION FOR RESIDENTS EXPERIENCING OR PREPARING FOR FLOODING

Washington, DC – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has released information that may be useful to residents across central and western Pennsylvania who are experiencing flooding or are preparing during a flood watch. Governor Rendell has declared emergencies in the following counties in central and western Pennsylvania: Bedford, Blair, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Indiana, Juniata, Mifflin and Perry.

If you have damage from flooding please call one of FEMA’s disaster aid hotlines at 1-800-621-FEMA or 1-800-462-7585. These hotlines will provide information on what type of assistance is available through the federal government and program eligibility based on your needs. FEMA’s website is www.fema.gov. In many cases, disaster assistance will be available through the State of Pennsylvania. For information on state assistance please contact the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency’s Central Pennsylvania office at 1-800-272-7362.

Heavy rains are predicted to continue in many parts of central and western Pennsylvania. FEMA encourages everyone to monitor local weather reports and stay up-to-date on concerns for your area. It is important to have disaster supplies such as a flashlight with extra batteries, first-aid kit, extra food and water, battery-powered radio, essential medicines and cash. If you live in a flood-prone area take extra precaution and contact PEMA’s toll-fee line at 1-800-272-7362 to find out more information about your community.

"Our area has received significant rainfall throughout the past week," said Shuster, chairman of the Emergency Management Subcommittee in Congress. "Many people already have damage and with more rain predicted we want to make sure information is widely available to people who need assistance and so others can best prepare."

Residents are encouraged to call the Red Cross for emergency supplies at 1-877-725-0400 as well as Congressman Shuster’s office at 1-800-854-3035 for additional information.
