Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster, chairman of the subcommittee that oversees the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), released the following statement regarding the announcement of David Paulison as Director of FEMA:
“David Paulison has an extensive background in emergency management, both at the local and federal level. He has been at the Department of Homeland Security for several years working with state emergency officials, and before that he oversaw Dade County’s fire rescue, which has a $200 million budget. This combination of experience should fit the job nicely.
“As we move forward with the fact-finding process and begin a thorough top-down and bottom-up review of our disaster response agencies, his experience will be critical because one of the major issues is how well local, state and federal officials communicated and worked together in the unprecedented aftermath of Katrina. His work at both of these levels will play an important role as we look back on the response to Hurricane Katrina. I look forward to working with Mr. Paulison as we strengthen the department’s all-hazards capability.” |
