Shuster Supports Pro-Gun Legislation that Protects 2nd Amendment

Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster heard important pro-gun legislation debated in the House of Representatives today that will help to secure and reaffirm the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution. Shuster strongly supports the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) Reform and Modernization Act (H.R. 5092) and plans to vote in favor of it on Tuesday.

“As Americans, we have a Constitutional right to bear arms,” said Shuster, a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA). “This bill protects law-abiding gun owners and ensures that when a firearms violation does occur, the punishment fits the crime.”

This bill requires that penalties for gun violations are based on the severity of the crime and the circumstances surrounding the violation. It also ensures that applicants who are turned down for a gun license are informed in writing, giving the applicant an opportunity to appeal the decision.

“Far too often law-abiding citizens are not extended their full rights to gun-ownership, they are given no recourse to rectify the situation,” said Shuster. “This bill gives citizens the ability to have an appeal hearing if they are unfairly turned down for a gun permit.”
