SHUSTER TRAVELS DISTRICT, LISTENS TO COMMUNITIES

Franklin, Fayette, Somerset Counties Included On Congressional Tour

Washington, DC –  Congressman Bill Shuster will be in Fayette County today rounding out a district-wide tour to meet with county commissioners, schools and other officials in the area.  Congressman Shuster has been traveling around central and western Pennsylvania since Congress adjourned in early December.  Last week he was in Franklin County, tomorrow he will be in Indiana County, and later in the week Somerset County.

“It is important to me that I travel the district as often as possible to meet with my constituents.  Their thoughts, concerns and ideas are essential to the legislative process,” Congressman Shuster said.  “While Congress is out-of-session, I have the opportunity to meet with teachers, hospitals, county commissioners and a variety of other groups who want to talk about federal issues important to their communities.”

Congress adjourned for the year after passing the Intelligence Reform bill on December 7th.  Since then, Congressman Shuster has been working in Pennsylvania out of his district offices (Hollidaysburg, Chambersburg, Indiana and Somerset).

“These offices are here for my constituents.  They can always stop by, even if I am in Washington, to talk to my staff or to get a message or concern to me,” said Congressman Shuster.

Congress will reconvene in January for Inauguration and to begin the 109th Congress.  When they return to Washington, Congressman Shuster is looking forward to working with his colleagues to strengthen national security by imposing a stronger standard on immigration.  Other issues for the 109th Congress include: reforming social security, simplifying the tax code, and ending medical malpractice abuse.
