ROCKWOOD FIRE RECEIVES FUNDS FOR NEW BREATHING GEAR

Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster announced today funding for the Rockwood Fire Department in Somerset County.  The department needs to upgrade its breathing equipment used by the volunteers during emergency situations.

“They’re out there protecting our neighborhoods whenever we are in need,” said Shuster, chairman of the Emergency Management Subcommittee in Congress.  “It’s not an easy job but with this grant they will purchase new gear that will help provide for their safety.”

Rockwood Fire will receive $85,500 to buy high-pressure breathing apparatus for all of the volunteers.  Currently they have low-pressure equipment but the new gear will be easier to use and more efficient.

The funding is administered through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grants.  The program provides direct assistance to fire departments around the country to improve their effectiveness and provide for their safety.  The applicants must demonstrate financial need and assess the benefits of receiving a grant.
