SHUSTER HELPS SEND PACKAGES TO TROOPS

Packages To Be Received By Troops Overseas During the Holidays

Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster today participated in a United Services Organization (USO) event where care packages were put together to send to our troops overseas.  The USO Care Packages are comprised of items specifically requested by service members, such as international calling cards, disposable cameras, CD’s, magazines and sunscreen.

“As the holiday season approaches, we must continue to keep our soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen in our prayers,” said Congressman Shuster.  “These packages will bring some cheer to these brave men and women who are fighting to protect the freedom and security we have in America.”

The event was in a Capitol Hill Office Building and began at 1 p.m.  These care packages will be sent to troops serving in Afghanistan and Iraq over the holiday season.  Congressman Shuster attended the event to help put together some of the packages and show his support for our armed forces.

Due to the threat of Anthrax following September 11th, the Department of Defense suspended its practice of forwarding correspondence and personal care packages from the American public to “any service member.”  In its place, the USO created Operation USO Care Package to boost morale and provide a safe and secure way for the public to show their support.
