DHS Funding comes to Hope Valley-Wyoming

(Warwick, R.I.) - Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) today announced funding for the Hope Valley-Wyoming Fire District through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters program. These awards are administered by the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.

“This competitively awarded funding allows local fire departments and other first responders to purchase equipment needed to enhance daily operations and improve their emergency response capabilities,” said Langevin. “Giving local agencies the ability to make improvements beyond their standard equipment only makes for safer communities.”

Hope Valley-Wyoming will receive $11,400 to purchase and install an industrial washing machine that will be capable of laundering the turnout gear of the firefighters.

Through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, the Department of Homeland Security awards grants to firefighters, emergency response personnel and first responders throughout the country to enhance response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public. This competitive grant program has provided almost $2.75 billion since 2004 to local fire departments and emergency medical services programs for training, first responder health and safety programs and equipment and response vehicles purchases.
